A Polish wedding is often associated with the sight of jackets taken off and short-sleeved shirts. You could say this has become a kind of tradition, but unfortunately, it has nothing to do with classic men’s elegance. In today’s article, we explain how to dress for a wedding as a guest!

How to dress for a wedding as a guest?

How should a guest present himself at a wedding?

Of course, a guest’s outfit should first and foremost show respect for other people and for the ceremony itself. This is a typical high-formality occasion. If we haven’t been given any specific dress code instructions—such as wearing a tuxedo—we should opt for a suit. However, it’s important to remember the following rule: a guest should not look more formal than the groom himself. We can easily meet this guideline by including a touch of relaxed style in our outfit. This could be expressed through a subtle pattern on the shirt, a patterned tie, or swapping the classic white pocket square for one made from printed silk. Keep in mind that going overboard with your attire will be seen as a lack of good manners and class. The entire look must strike the right balance!

Which suit should you wear?

We recommend a simple and classic set—a navy or graphite suit for a wedding. Of course, you can opt for more unconventional combinations, but you should always remember to maintain an appropriate level of formality. What about jackets at weddings—can you attend without one? It’s important to note that there is a big difference between arriving without a jacket and taking it off during the wedding. The key moments of the event require wearing it: the ceremony, photographs, and the couple’s first dance. When it comes to the part of the celebration focused on dancing and having fun, you can naturally take it off—there’s no problem with that. Just remember one simple rule: if there’s a photographer nearby, keep your look sharp and keep your jacket on.

Summer wedding and the shirt

Many people worry about being too hot if the ceremony takes place in summer. This concern often leads to the unfortunate decision of wearing a short-sleeved shirt. Unfortunately, there is no place for that in classic men’s elegance! You should always wear a long-sleeved shirt, which you can roll up if necessary. We guarantee this will provide the right level of ease and comfort. If you’re particularly concerned about the heat, you can opt for an exceptionally breathable linen shirt. Below are some shirt suggestions to pair with a navy suit:

Tie or bow tie for a wedding?

tie  or a bow tie is an essential element of formal attire. A suit should never be worn with an unbuttoned shirt. Naturally, in the evening, when you are no longer wearing your jacket, you may remove your tie, and that will not be an issue. Until then, however, this accessory should be in place. A tie not only completes the outfit but also serves a decorative function. If you choose the right shirt and collar style, wearing a tie or bow tie will in no way have a negative impact on your comfort!

Vest for a wedding

A vest is part of a three-piece suit. This means that under no circumstances is it a substitute for a jacket! However, it does have many advantages when it comes to the moment you decide to take your jacket off—you will still appear more formal than if you were just in a shirt. Attempting to replace a jacket with a vest, however, is a style mistake that cannot be defended. Wonderful jackets that pair perfectly with a navy suit are available at Miler Menswear.

Shoes for a wedding

The most formal type of footwear, suitable for both daytime and evening occasions, is black oxfords, which feature a closed lacing system. This is the most classic, safe, and elegant option. If, for some reason, you absolutely want to wear brown shoes, choose the darkest possible shade of brown and avoid any broguing. An example here could be brown monk shoes, which will certainly look charming. For an even more casual style, you might opt for loafers, which, when paired with a sport jacket, will create an interesting look. However, this type of choice requires a more advanced understanding of the rules of classic men’s elegance.

Winter wedding

What if you’re not worried about being too hot, but rather about being too cold? Our suggestion: the best solution is to wear a classic coat! Every man should have at least one elegant coat in his wardrobe. It perfectly enhances your appearance in both formal and semi-formal situations. We recommend a navy or charcoal Chesterfield coat. An especially good choice here would be our Charles navy coat:
