Gray flannel suit – a classic of men’s elegance in a modern edition

There is no doubt that the most important suit in every gentleman’s wardrobe is the navy suit. However, this does not mean that the world ends there! In winter, it is the gray flannel suit that takes center stage, and today we would like to tell you about it.

The gray flannel suit shown in the photos is the classic Phoenix from Miler Menswear. The jacket features wide notch lapels, a high-set gorge (the point where the lapel meets the collar), a slanted breast pocket, flap pockets, and double vents at the back. The flannel from which the suit is made was woven in Italy by the legendary producer Vitale Barberis Canonico. It is characterized by a dense, substantial feel that is very pleasant to the skin. Our flannel suit truly wraps and embraces the wearer—and that is exactly what we intended. 

What is flannel and how is it made?

The world of elegance loves flannel. This fabric is wool of any weave, finished by brushing it with metal brushes, which raises individual fibers in the yarn and creates a soft, velvety surface pleasant to the touch. It is worth noting that the term “flannel” does not describe the type of fabric, but rather the method of its production. This means that flannel can be either wool (most often used for suits) or cotton (most often used for shirts). Beautiful flannels often have a mélange character, which means that many colors can be seen within the fabric. 

Gray flannel suit in classic elegance

The gray flannel suit is very well known in men’s elegance. In fact, it would be difficult to find an icon of men’s style who has not worn it. In the United Kingdom, apart from its multiple appearances in James Bond films, the gray flannel suit was also seen on members of the royal family such as the Duke of Windsor and Prince Charles. Italians also love flannel. Without a doubt, the most famous promoter of the suit in this fabric was Gianni “L’Avvocato” Agnelli, the legendary chairman of FIAT. It is also worth adding that the gray flannel suit was adored by the stars of Hollywood’s golden age, among whom were such great names as Cary Grant, Clark Gable, and Gregory Peck.
