Power dressing is a phenomenon born on Wall Street, aimed at amplifying the power of first impressions. At the heart of this concept lies the power suit— a suit designed to draw attention and emphasize the authority of its wearer. You could say that the "suit of power" is a kind of mental armor made of high-quality pinstriped wool, which proves more effective in business than Kevlar.

It's worth stating right from the beginning that choosing to wear a power suit requires the ability to support that image with competence and authority. When someone who enjoys elegance but is just starting their professional career—especially within a large organization—puts on a power suit, it becomes more of a costume than true clothing, which can lead to awkward situations.
Today, we’re taking a closer look at such a suit. As always when designing a suit, let’s start with the fabric. The featured piece is made from fairly thick graphite flannel—a brushed wool whose surface is covered with raised fibers created through brushing. The fabric features a very distinctive “rope stripe” pattern, named so because up close, the stripe resembles a twisted rope.

The dark color gives this suit a fall-winter character, while the high contrasts elevate its level of formality.

The jacket shown in the photos is double-breasted, and therefore naturally features peak lapels, also known as tailcoat lapels. This type of lapel not only increases the formality—since it originates from the tailcoat—but also visually broadens the shoulders, thereby enhancing the silhouette. The jacket’s button configuration is 6×2 (six buttons in total, with two functional ones). For this look, I paired it with a pin collar shirt, a tie made from printed silk, and a white linen pocket square with hand-rolled edges.

The fairly wide trousers with cuffs are tailored in a cut that accommodates the use of suspenders. Since a double-breasted jacket is typically not unbuttoned in the presence of others, the suspenders will naturally only be visible in certain moments—such as when driving and the jacket is removed. This time, thanks to the courtesy of Lexus Poznań, part of the Ukleja Group, we’re showcasing a stunning Lexus LS 500 in our photo shoot!
