Men's black Oxford shoes by MILER for wide feet

Black cap-toe Oxfords are a classic and formal men’s shoe that every man should have in his wardrobe. However, shoes are not just about the style of the upper — fit is equally important. Many men in Poland have wide feet, which don’t match the narrow lasts commonly found on the market. This creates a serious issue: men who can’t slide their feet into slim shoes instinctively start increasing the size until the shoes are no longer “too tight across the width,” without realizing that the insole length then becomes much longer than the length of the foot. As a result, the empty toe box eventually bends upward, creating a look that is far from elegant. The solution to this problem is wider shoes. We are very pleased to offer such models in the Miler Menswear portfolio. If you have wide feet, this is exactly what you’ve been looking for!

After each wear, wipe the shoes with a soft cotton cloth or use a horsehair brush to prevent dirt from settling into the leather grain.
Use a shoe cream to restore colour and hydrate the leather.
It is very important that the creams do not contain alcohol or solvents.

How to choose the right shoe size?

Shoes for wide feet

As a reputable brand of classic footwear, Miler Menswear fully understands that people’s feet vary not only in length but also in width and shape. This is of great importance for all men who wear classic shoes, as poorly fitted footwear can result not only in an inelegant appearance but also in significant discomfort and even foot problems such as blisters, calluses, and bunions.

Many men in Poland have wide feet, which unfortunately do not fit the sleek and tapered shoes that are so pleasing to the eye. This, of course, creates a significant challenge in finding the right footwear for those with wider feet. At Miler Menswear, we decided to design a last with a wider fit that still maintains a dynamic silhouette to delight the eye. We are proud to say that we have accomplished this task brilliantly!

Shoes on a wide last

Properly fitted footwear

One of the fundamental mistakes we make when buying shoes is failing to match them to the anatomical shape of the foot. Unfortunately, very few people are aware of this. An improper size causes the feet to push against the shoes so forcefully that their edges extend beyond the contours of the sole, which can result in the upper becoming severely deformed.

It can get even worse! Often, when we can’t slide the foot into a shoe, instead of looking for wider shoes, we choose a larger size, which of course is also longer. This results in empty space inside the shoe in front of the toes and leads to the foot appearing significantly longer—something particularly unflattering for shorter individuals. What’s more, the empty space at the front can cause the toe of the shoe to curl upward, creating an “Aladdin effect,” which looks unattractive.

This is precisely why it is so important to buy shoes that are suited to the anatomical shape of your foot.

Shoes for wide and standard feet – a comparison

At Miler Menswear, in addition to shoes in the standard F width, we also offer wider shoes in the H width (which is extremely rare).

Shoes for wide and standard feet

The Oxford shoes from Miler Menswear made on an H-width last are noticeably wider at the instep, yet they are not longer! This allows you to wear shoes that appear significantly shorter visually and will not become deformed over time. It’s the perfect solution for many people with wide feet!

For what occasions can I wear Miler Menswear men’s oxford shoes, and for which should I avoid them?

Black oxfords are a perfect match for formal ensembles. They demonstrate that the wearer pays great attention to detail and wants to highlight the significance of the occasion. Many men choose them for their weddings. They complement a suit beautifully and add sophistication to the outfit. They also appear frequently when wearing a tuxedo, further underscoring their exceptional character. Oxford shoes are also an excellent choice for business attire, as they create an aura of authority and instill confidence.

How was the sole made in the black oxfords from Miler Menswear?

We know very well all the charms of wearing leather shoes. After years of wearing such footwear, we understand that nothing is more important than the leather from which they are made, and the critical weak point in using such shoes is the leather sole, which wears down over time and, in winter, can even cause slipping. We thought long and hard about how we could create oxford shoes that are visually appealing while also enhancing their functionality in terms of the sole. We decided to use a prestigious leather sole that is partially rubber-covered in the areas most prone to wear. This solution allows you to:

  • → protect the sole in areas most exposed to wear while still showcasing that it is made of leather.
  • → prevent the sole from soaking through.
  • → provide the wearer with slip resistance, addressing a common issue with leather soles in certain conditions.
  • → save customers the time and expense of finding a cobbler to add protective rubber to their shoes.

The black Oxfords from Miler Menswear are crafted using the Blake stitching method

Alongside Goodyear welting, which is associated with British elegance, Blake is the second traditional shoemaking method, historically linked to Italian refinement. This technique involves stitching the sole directly to the upper of the shoe. Lyman Reed Blake patented his shoe-sewing machine in 1858, revolutionizing footwear production. While Goodyear welting remains the most prestigious construction method, thanks to advantages such as the ability to replace the sole and greater resistance to rain and snow, it’s important to highlight the benefits of Blake construction as well. A Blake sole is highly flexible, winning over enthusiasts with its exceptional comfort. Because of these qualities, Blake construction was adopted by the Italian footwear industry as its leading method. This is precisely how our oxfords are made.

The history of oxford shoes

What is the history of these truly iconic, classic shoes known to every gentleman? Their origins can be traced back to the 1830s, with England considered their birthplace. However, men’s oxfords had to wait nearly 50 years to gain widespread popularity. The debut pair was crafted by the masters of the legendary John Lobb workshop in London. Today, over a century later, oxfords are still regarded as timeless and elegant footwear. They remain a reliable choice for formal styling!

Men’s oxford shoes – what makes this type of footwear stand out?

Men’s oxford shoes are a type of footwear that can be worn for highly formal occasions as well as in slightly less formal settings. This is a versatile shoe, and it’s no surprise that it is often the go-to choice when putting together a wedding outfit! On such an important day, they ensure a flawless appearance, and later they can accompany you to business meetings or other elegant events. This is certainly not a pair that will gather dust in your wardrobe. Oxfords feature a “closed lacing” system, meaning the tongue is only visible at the point above the laces. It’s worth noting that in formal shoes, this part is typically not exposed—oxford shoes meet all the standards of refined footwear.

Why are oxford shoes considered formal?

The most formal shoes are those with as few seams as possible. This is why the most formal oxfords are those without broguing and without a cap toe. It’s worth noting that an exception to this rule is the wholecut shoe. Although it is made from a single piece of leather and has no visible seams on the upper, it is considered less formal than oxfords. Additionally, patent leather shoes are more formal than glossy leather shoes, while matte finishes are regarded as the least formal.

What to wear with men’s oxford shoes?

Oxfords are the perfect match for several types of pants. They adapt seamlessly to the character of your outfit while adding a touch of classic elegance.

WITH SUIT PANTS

Since oxford shoes are the perfect choice for all kinds of formal occasions, they pair beautifully with suit pants. Whether you’re attending a wedding, a formal dinner, or a business meeting, oxfords worn with a suit, will always rise to the occasion.

WITH CHINOS

If you want to look elegant while giving your outfit a slightly more relaxed feel, a great idea is to pair oxfords with chinos. However, it’s important to keep the colors in mind: the chinos should be in a muted tone to complement this type of footwear, namely men’s oxford shoes. To complete the look, you can add a sport jacket.

WITH JEANS

Although oxfords are formal shoes, black men’s oxfords can look great even with jeans! However, black shoes should be paired with darker shades of denim. Additionally, you need to ensure that your outfit featuring men’s oxford shoes is well-balanced—for example, by adding a shirt or sport jacket.

Idealne
